A Closer Look at Skyscanner’s Travel Trends Report 2024
“Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2024 report reveals that cultural exploration will be a priority for Indian travellers in 2024, with cultural curiosity driving the decision-making process while planning trips. Additionally, the report features trending destinations and those offering the best value for travellers in 2024” says Mohit Joshi, Skyscanner trends and destination expert.
According to the report, 86 per cent of Indian travellers plan to take the same number, if not more trips abroad in 2024 compared to 2023. While 26 per cent say the cost of flights mostly determines their choice of destination, globally 30 per cent travellers say that the price of flights is the number one consideration.
Top Destinations for Indian Travellers, and more
Coming to destinations, Da Nang, Almaty, and Baku, have secured the top three places respectively in the top 10 destinations for Indian travellers. The list also includes Krabi, Budapest, and Vienna. Talking about the factors that drive the choice of holiday destinations, 71 per cent voted for food and 65 per cent each chose culture and weather. Shopping, historical tours, and sampling local food top the charts for popular activities travellers prefer.
“In the evolving landscape of travel, there is a notable integration of identity and purpose into the decision-making process. The report sheds light on this shift, emphasising a growing connection between travel and identity. The trends [also] indicate a diverse spectrum of cultural curiosity. Besides these, Skyscanner has also identified three travel types including analogue adventurers representing Gen Z’s preference for capturing experiences without digital devices, celebration vacationers who prioritise making milestones as something to remember, and luxe-for-less seekers—travellers adept at finding luxury within budget,” adds Joshi.
The report also found out that 59 per cent Indian travellers have booked a destination for a specific restaurant they want to visit.
Talking about Skyscanner’s role in helping travellers, Joshi says, “Skyscanner is a trusted travel marketplace for finding the best travel value and deals, helping travellers explore the world with ease and confidence. To cater to these diverse preferences, Skyscanner provides a range of traveller-first tools. For those open to exploring various destinations and not tied to a specific place, Skyscanner’s ‘Everywhere Search’ tool can help them discover great deals to amazing destinations, by simply selecting ‘Everywhere’ as their destination. Moreover, for simpler planning, travellers can skip the hassle of checking for price drops by setting up a ‘Price Alert’ for their specific route. Skyscanner will notify them of any price changes, ensuring they stay updated and informed.”
