Coming soon to a location near you: IHG is rolling out a conversion opportunity for midscale properties in Garner hotels.
InterContinental Hotel Group is expanding once again, targeting midscale travelers starting in North America and expanding around the globe.
The company announced the launch of Garner hotels, described as a space with “easy going stays that get you on your way.”
Garner Plans for 500 Hotels in U.S. by 2034
Since the return to travel after the pandemic, hotels are expanding into the midscale hotel space. Announced in August 2023, the newest brand plans to expand to 500 U.S. hotels in the next decade.
Focused on smaller hotels converting from another brand to the IHG imprint, the first hotel opened in December near Seattle. Since then, several smaller hotels have also opened along the way, including a 63-room hotel near Macon, Georgia, and a 68-room property in Oklahoma City.
Similar to other hotels in the space, Garner hotels will feature family-friendly spaces with “dependable amenities.” Coffee will be available at all hours, with a build-your-own hot breakfast in the morning and cookie happy hour in the evening.
While the Garner footprint is currently small, several properties have committed to opening Garner properties. New conversions are scheduled to take place in Topeka, Kansas; Provo, Utah; Mahwah, New Jersey; and Clarksville, Tennessee.
Moreover, the brand is also looking to expand to Europe and Asia, with three hotels in Osaka committing to joining the brand. Most properties will also participate in the IHG One Rewards program, allowing members to benefit from their elite status while earning or redeeming points.
To commemorate the opening, IHG is running a promotion for IHG One Rewards members. Through May 31, 2024, members who register for the promotion at the IHG website can earn 3X bonus points between March 1 and May 31 at Garner hotels.
The move is the latest brand to expand their brand to the midscale and upper-midscale market. In 2023, Hyatt launched Hyatt Studios, a new upper-midscale brand focused on longer stay business and leisure guests.
